The name(s) will be included in the District recognition ceremony; however, the review committee will not consider them for the Educator of The Year award.
No. Only the first application submission will be accepted.
A campus principal and designee (if department, then the director) will select the First Year Educator of the Year and Educator of the Year nominees for their campus. The applications are electronic and can be accessed from the Grants website. Once an application has been submitted by the principal or their designee, a committee will review all applicants and score nominations based on a rubric. All nominees will be invited to the Educator of the Year ceremony, where NISD officials recognize all nominees and announce the winners.
Yes. If the nominee is the Teacher of Record, they can be nominated for Educator of the Year or First Year Educator of the Year.
Yes, if the teacher was not a recipient of a district award, Kens 5 Excel Award or the Trinity Prize nominee in the prior school year. District award winners, the Kens 5 Excel Award recipient and the Trinity Prize nominee are ineligible for consideration for three consecutive years.
Educators who receive the district’s Educator of the Year award for elementary, middle or high school or the Trinity Prize nominee cannot be nominated again during a three year period.

No. If a campus’ nominee for Educator of the Year or First Year Educator of the Year leaves the campus where he/she was nominated, h/she is ineligible for the award. The campus may then submit the name of the “runner up”.

No. A campus is not obligated to nominate a first year teacher for this recognition if the teacher’s performance does not meet campus performance expectations.
Librarians are eligible. Counselors are ineligible for this award.

Yes, Orders for a DVD of the evening’s ceremony will be taken in the lobby before and after the event for $5 each. DVDs will be delivered to you the week of March 30. In addition, all the photos taken of the ceremony will be posted on the NISD intranet the following day for your download.
Yes, this event is planned as a high-energy celebration. You and your guests are invited to bring signs, posters, and noise makers; however, helium balloons are not allowed.
We ask all nominees to arrive at the Brandeis HS auditorium by 5:45 p.m. Nominees will need to check in at the registration table located in the lobby to pick up your name badge, announcement card and instructions for the evening. Dr. John Folks will host the Superintendent’s Reception in school cafeteria and foyer for all nominees. This reception follows immediately after the stage ceremony and lasts around 1 hour.
Yes, friends and family are invited. Seating is on a first come-first served basis (nominees will have assigned/reserved seating). There will also be a designated area where family members or friends may go to take pictures at the time of your actual award presentation.
There will be two ceremonies at Brandeis High School. The first will honor elementary school nominees and will be on March 18, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. The second will honor secondary (middle and high school) nominees on March 19, 2009, at 6:30 p.m.
