District Awards for Teacher Excellence (DATE)
DATE is a program created by the 79th legislature to provide funding for districts to reward teachers for having a positive impact on student achievement. The goal of the NISD DATE plan is to provide funding to support district-wide goals and the implementation of a financial award system that:
- Awards teachers for positively impacting students achievement
- Target district’s most in-need campuses to improve teacher quality
- Create capacity and sustainability for improved instruction
The Northside DATE plan targets campuses with high percentages of economically disadvantaged students. Staff members at the 33 selected DATE campuses are eligible to receive $6.1 million in DATE grants.
For the second year of implementation TAKS scores from the 2009-2010 school year will be used as the performance measure in deciding what eligible teachers should receive the award, and in calculating the amount of each award. Awards will be paid in the fall of 2010.
